Cambodia, Singapore Satisfied with Bilateral Relations and Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, March 25, 2021 --
Cambodia and Singapore have spoken highly of their good friendship and cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, health and people-to-people relations.
The appreciation was expressed by Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, and newly appointed Singapore Ambassador H.E. Ms. Teo Lay Cheng, during their courtesy meeting at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
They also lauded Cambodia-Singapore two-way trade, stressing that it has reached US$4.24 billion while Singapore’s investment in Cambodia rose to US$1.29 billion from 1994 to 2020.
The Acting Head of State encouraged the ambassador to boost more investment from Singapore as well as the bilateral trade exchange, which will contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of both countries in this COVID-19 crisis.
Besides, Samdech Say Chhum thanked the Government of Singapore for its assistance to the capacity building of Cambodian civil servants at the Cambodia-Singapore Training Centre in Phnom Penh and asked the Singapore side to consider providing more scholarships for Cambodian students and civil servants.
Cambodia and Singapore established their diplomatic relations on Sept. 15, 1965. Last year, the two ASEAN nations marked the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties with various cultural programmes.
