PM Hun Manet Awaits Clear Response from Mr. Um Sam An on Border Discussion
AKP Phnom Penh, October 13, 2026 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet is awaiting a clear response from opposition politician Mr. Um Sam An regarding his invitation to discuss the Cambodia-Thailand border issue between border markers No. 52 and No. 59, stressing the importance of transparency, accountability and evidence-based discussion.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister said four days had passed without a clear response to his invitation for Mr. Um Sam An and his border experts to present all documents and evidence they possess concerning the disputed area and discuss them directly with the technical team of Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Border Affairs.
Samdech Thipadei said the proposed discussion aimed to demonstrate transparency, accountability, accuracy and responsibility to the Cambodian people regarding the border issue with Thailand, particularly while the border dispute remains unresolved.
He noted that Mr. Um Sam An had issued several statements in recent days, including concerns about his personal safety and remarks that he was willing to accept defeat for the sake of Cambodia’s victory. The Prime Minister also referred to conditions reportedly raised through an organisation he described as illegal, suggesting that these could be an attempt to avoid the proposed discussion.
Mr. Um Sam An has alleged that Cambodian government border experts allowed Thailand to place border markers inside Cambodian territory between markers No. 52 and No. 59. The Prime Minister challenged him to bring forward the supporting documents and evidence so the allegations could be examined directly by both sides.
“If he is unwilling to discuss even a few kilometres of land or does not have documents to present, can he be expected to handle the entire border?” the Prime Minister asked.
Samdech Thipadei reiterated that he was waiting for a clear answer from Mr. Um Sam An regarding the invitation to discuss the border issue between markers No. 52 and No. 59.
