ADB Reaffirms Support for Cambodia’s Green Economy and Climate Resilience
AKP Phnom Penh, October 8, 2026 -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reaffirmed its support for Cambodia’s efforts to advance green economic development and strengthen climate resilience through continued technical assistance and financing.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Minister of Environment H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth and Ms. Yasmin Siddiqi, ADB Country Director for Cambodia, at the Ministry of Environment on Oct. 8.
H.E. Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the ADB, describing it as a key strategic development partner for Cambodia.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth highlighted Cambodia’s ongoing implementation of the Royal Government’s policies and strategies, particularly the Circular Strategy on Environment, which includes campaigns for a clean Cambodia, initiatives to increase green cover through reforestation, solid and liquid waste management, and climate change mitigation.
Ms. Yasmin Siddiqi commended the Ministry of Environment’s efforts and achievements, particularly its promotion of cleanliness campaigns led by students and young people aimed at ensuring a clean environment for Cambodia’s future.
She affirmed that the ADB would continue to provide technical assistance and financing to enhance the effectiveness of projects supporting green development, food security and climate resilience in Cambodia.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the green agenda in line with the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy and the Ministry of Environment’s Circular Strategy.
The discussions covered cooperation on the conservation of natural protected areas and ecosystem protection to promote environmental sustainability while addressing socio-economic development and the global challenge of climate change.
The Ministry and ADB also discussed strengthening climate resilience among communities in natural protected areas, as well as supporting crab stock and mangrove forest conservation in coastal regions. These efforts are intended to improve local livelihoods and support long-term food security.
In addition, both sides discussed initiatives to attract green investment and develop a transparent carbon credit market, with the aim of contributing to Cambodia’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
