Cambodia and Japan have further strengthened cooperation on clean and green investment to address global climate change through the “Cambodia-Japan Space Economy ‘ Co-Creation’ Networking Symposium and Business Matching,” held at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, and H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth said Cambodia had made a strong commitment to climate action by setting a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2035 under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

Cambodia and Japan have also closely cooperated through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) to promote low-carbon technologies, including LED lighting systems, solar energy, and Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) rice cultivation projects. These initiatives aim to reduce methane emissions while creating additional economic opportunities for farmers.

The Minister also highlighted the use of satellite-based technologies, including satellite data and remote-sensing technologies from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), to strengthen monitoring of environmental changes, agriculture and land management.

He encouraged investors, companies and institutions from both countries to develop investment partnerships in areas such as Climate-Smart Agriculture, carbon markets, digital data systems and other green technologies, contributing to clean, green and sustainable investment.

The forum is expected to open new opportunities for investment cooperation and sustainable and resilient development between Cambodia and Japan.

The event brought together representatives of government ministries and institutions, the Embassy of Japan, the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), JAXA, the Japan Space Forum, as well as private-sector and research institutions, with the aim of promoting green investment, innovative technologies and climate change mitigation.
