Minister of Information Urges Women's Media Outlet to Boost Digital Reach for Youth, Rural Audiences
AKP Phnom Penh, August 6, 2026 --
Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra called on the Women’s Media Centre of Cambodia (WMC) on Thursday to expand its presence across social media and digital platforms alongside traditional radio broadcasting to reach a broader audience, particularly youth and rural communities.
H.E. Minister made the remarks during a meeting with WMC Executive Director Ms. Sawada Chan Krisna at the ministry's headquarters in Phnom Penh. The discussions focused on broadening the reach of reliable information to rural and remote regions, fostering public awareness of social development, and clarifying Royal Government policies.
During the meeting, the minister commended WMC's contributions to public interest broadcasting, particularly in health, education, and the rights of women and children. He advised the organisation to enhance its content quality, maintain professional ethics, and produce engaging material tailored to digital trends.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra reaffirmed the Royal Government’s support for media outlets that practice responsible journalism to promote a healthy media environment.
For her part, Ms. Sawada Chan Krisna briefed the Minister on recent listener surveys conducted across provinces and cities to better understand local media consumption habits.
She highlighted WMC’s commitment to raising awareness on public health, gender equality, and child protection, especially among digitally underserved populations.
Marking 30 years of operation, the non-governmental media organisation pledged to continue using both traditional and modern channels to serve the public interest in line with national development goals.
