Acting Head of State Eyes Cambodia-Vietnam Trade Volume Reaching US$20 Billion

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his desire to see bilateral trade between Cambodia and Vietnam reach US$20 billion in the future, in line with the commitment made by both countries.
The remarks were made during a courtesy meeting with H.E. Trinh Van Quyet, Member of the Politburo, Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, held on Tuesday morning at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh.
According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasised that the core relations between Cambodia and Vietnam remain closely linked to economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo welcomed the Vietnamese delegation’s visit to Cambodia, describing it as an important contribution to further strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly within the framework of party-to-party relations.
For his part, H.E. Trinh Van Quyet highlighted the strong and growing ties between Cambodia and Vietnam across legislative, executive, and people-to-people cooperation. He noted that exchanges of visits between leaders of both countries have continued actively, reflecting the close and enduring relationship between the two neighbours.
The Vietnamese official also pointed out that 2027 will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam, with both sides planning commemorative activities to celebrate the milestone.
In addition, H.E. Trinh Van Quyet praised the close cooperation along the Cambodia-Vietnam border, which has contributed to maintaining peace, security, and stability while promoting mutual benefits for people living in border areas.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with the progress of border cooperation, stressing that Cambodia has consistently encouraged provincial authorities along the border to further strengthen collaboration with their Vietnamese counterparts, especially in trade facilitation, transport, and people-to-people exchanges.
Samdech Techo also underscored the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries within both governmental and party frameworks. He particularly welcomed the growing exchanges and training programmes between Cambodian and Vietnamese youth, which help foster closer ties between the younger generations of both nations.
H.E. Trinh Van Quyet voiced support for the goal of increasing bilateral trade to US$20 billion, expressing confidence that Cambodia and Vietnam would be able to achieve the target in the future.
