Cambodia, U.S. Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Peaceful Border Resolution
AKP Phnom Penh, May 13, 2026 --
Cambodia and the U.S. have discussed ways to further strengthen their bilateral relations and efforts to ensure the peaceful resolution of the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand.
In a telephone conversation on May 12, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs welcomed the continued positive momentum in bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across areas of mutual interest, including defense, security, and efforts to combat transnational crimes.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the United States’ support for the Cambodia-Thailand peace process and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to the full implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement of July 28, 2025, the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee Meeting held on Dec. 27, 2025.
The Cambodian top diplomat further emphasised the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
