Schools Continue to Close with Ongoing Feb. 20 Community Event
AKP Phnom Penh, June 17, 2021 --
All public and private schools will continue to be shut down as the Feb. 20 Community Event has not yet ended.
H.E. Ros Soveacha, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), made the confirmation on June 17 while the private sector has requested for the reopening of private schools.
The spokesperson encouraged the public and private school institutions to continue online teaching and learning in line with the New Normal Norm in the education sector and following the MoEYS' guidelines.
MoEYS welcomes and thanks all relevant ministries and institutions, development partners, private sector, especially parents, students and local authorities for their participation in the enhancement of education quality before and in the context of COVID-19, underlined H.E. Ros Soveacha.
The first COVID-19 case was reported in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province. The confirmed cases have surged quickly this year due to the Feb. 20 community outbreak.
