Hard Work Put to Promote Welfare of People with Disabilities

The Royal Government of Cambodia is working hard in enhancing welfare, rights and living condition of Cambodian people with disabilities.
The effort was highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng while presiding over the official launching of the National Disability Strategic Plan for 2019-2023, the 21st National Day and 37th International Day of People with Disabilities here in Phnom Penh recently.
Samdech Sar Kheng continued that the development of the National Disability Strategic Plan for 2019-2023 aims to eliminate exploitation and discrimination against crippled persons, rehabilitate their physical and mental health and encourage them to participate in social and political activities.
The intention, the deputy prime minister said, reflects the government’s strong commitments in addressing any problems of the people with disabilities through providing them with more opportunities and supports.
The National Disability Strategic Plan for 2019-2023 will also contribute to maintaining peace, political stability and development of the country grounding on principles of mutual respects of human rights, underlined Samdech Sar Kheng.
Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng called on concerned stakeholders for joint effort to succeed the rollout of the five-year’s National Disability Strategic Plan (2014-2018) in contributing to upgrading the status of Cambodian disabled people.
According to Cambodia economic and social work observation 2014, Cambodia’s prevalence of disability was 4 percent of the total population or approximately 524,000 people.
