Draft Port Law in Process

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has been gathering more inputs to improve its draft law on ports.
Late last week in Phnom Penh, MPWT, in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organised a national workshop on draft port law, with the participation of more than 100 people who are relevant officials of MPWT and its line departments, representatives of concerned ministries and institutions, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and private port operators.
H.E. Eang Vengsun, Secretary of State at MPWT, who presided over the two-day workshop’s opening ceremony, highlighted the significance of port sector in boosting trade activities, thus contributing to the national and international economic development.
For his part, a JICA’s senior representative said the port regulation is very important in developing Cambodian ports sustainably. He expressed his hope that the draft law will be approved by the Royal Government of Cambodia in the near future.
