AKP Phnom Penh, August 27, 2026 -- Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet received a U.S. congressional delegation led by Reps. Jimmy Panetta, Jim Baird, Julie Johnson and Kristen McDonald Rivet at the Peace Palace here on Aug. 27 to discuss ways to further strengthen Cambodia-U.S. relations and cooperation.

During the meeting, the U.S. lawmakers expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s rapid development and welcomed positive progress in bilateral cooperation in areas including trade and investment, security, mine and unexploded ordnance clearance, and healthcare.

The delegation said the visit provided an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s potential and bilateral ties. They pledged to continue supporting the U.S. Government’s efforts to expand and broaden cooperation with Cambodia and reaffirmed continued U.S. support for mine and unexploded ordnance clearance efforts in the Kingdom.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the delegation’s assessment and expressed satisfaction with the positive development of Cambodia-U.S. relations. He reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to further strengthening friendship and cooperation, noting that the two countries still have significant potential and opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Prime Minister highlighted Cambodia’s growing trade and foreign investment and stressed the importance of strengthening economic resilience and developing key sectors, particularly textiles, agriculture and agro-processing, to increase exports to international markets.

Both sides also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in healthcare, security and defence.

Samdech Thipadei expressed deep appreciation for continued U.S. support for Cambodia’s mine-clearance efforts. He also thanked U.S. President Donald J. Trump and his administration for helping facilitate the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement of Oct. 26, 2025.

The Prime Minister further briefed the delegation on recent developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border and reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties and agreements between the two countries.
