President of the Senate Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has described economic, trade and investment cooperation as the core of bilateral relations between Cambodia and Saudi Arabia.

The remarks were made during a courtesy meeting with H.E. Thamer Mohammed A. Algosaibi, newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Cambodia, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on the afternoon of Aug. 25.

According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the Saudi ambassador on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would contribute to further advancing relations between the two countries.

H.E. Thamer Mohammed A. Algosaibi highlighted the growing strength of Cambodia-Saudi Arabia relations, reflected in continued high-level exchanges and visits between the two countries, as well as increasing contacts between Saudi and Cambodian business communities.

The Ambassador noted that these exchanges had contributed to strengthening investment cooperation in Cambodia and stressed that significant potential remained for further expanding economic, trade and investment ties.

He expressed hope that bilateral relations would advance to a new level through stronger government-to-government, political and people-to-people ties.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the Ambassador's assessment and identified economic, trade and investment relations as a central pillar of bilateral cooperation.

He outlined three key areas for further strengthening Cambodia-Saudi Arabia relations.

First, he called for more frequent exchanges and visits between the senior leaders of the two countries to deepen political and diplomatic ties.

Second, he encouraged greater exchanges between investors and business communities, urging Saudi and Cambodian companies to work more closely together to increase investment between the two countries.

In particular, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his desire to see more Saudi investment in Cambodia, especially in processing industries that could add value to Cambodian products, including agricultural goods, for export to the Saudi Arabian market.

Third, he encouraged the governments of both countries to further strengthen people-to-people ties, particularly through tourism, which he said could contribute to closer relations and reinforce political ties between Cambodia and Saudi Arabia.
