Additional 226 Fire Engines Purchased for Remote Towns

AKP Phnom Penh, March 31, 2016 —

Ministry of Interior has ordered the purchase of 226 fire engines to ensure timely intervention in towns isolated from the central capital and provincial areas.

In a recent interview with a local media, Chief of Fire Department Mr. Neth Vantha updated that half of the ordered engines will be delivered by mid-2016 the latest.

Optimistically the expense will address the increasing threats of house fire incidents caused by both man-made and natural forest fire in remote towns across Cambodia.

At the same time, according to the same source, the Ministry of Interior is studying 65 sites at far-flung towns to locate the purchased fire engine and capacitating relevant officials.

Cambodia has so far 120 fire engines situated in only central capital and provincial areas, causing delayed intervention on incidents happening in isolated towns.

Unlike in the previous year wherein 85 percent of the total 590 fire incidents were caused by electrical complications, the first three months of 2016 witnessed about 170 incidents mostly resulted by forest fire.
