Timor-Leste Thanks Cambodia for Its Support

Phnom Penh, March 30, 2011 AKP —

Visiting President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, has expressed profound thanks to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its full support to his country to become the ASEAN 11th member.

For its part, Timor-Leste will support Cambodia’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for 2013-2014, affirmed H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta during a separate meeting today with Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Thamma Pothisal Chea Sim and National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin.

Timor-Leste always supports and cooperates with Cambodia in all international forums, he stressed.

The East Timorese president also expressed his intention to promote the trade cooperation between both countries, particularly in exporting Cambodian rice to Timor-Leste.

In reply, the Cambodian leaders deeply thanked Timor-Leste for its support to Cambodia’s candidacy as a UNSC non-permanent member. They highly evaluated the visit of H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta to Cambodia, through which they said the cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade exchange and agriculture will be strengthened and expanded.

Both sides further informed each other of the internal and external political situation of their respective countries.

H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta arrived here on Mar. 29 for a three-day state visit. On the same day, he was received in a royal audience by His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia and met with Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen. –AKP
