Workshop to Understand and Resolve Issues Faced by Indigenous Minorities

AKP Phnom Penh, October 13, 2017 —

National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia has organised a dissemination workshop to reflect the challenges and joint resolution in order to elaborate a forest investment plan in accordance with the government’s reform programme.

Addressing the event taking place here in Phnom Penh on Oct. 11, H.E. Leng Peng Long, NA Secretary General, said that the workshop also served as opportunity for all participants to share their buy-in to solutions to address issues faced by the indigenous minorities.

The workshop was attended by all concerned institutions, national and international organisations and development partners.

Ms. Lat Sok Em, a representative of Cambodia Indigenous Peoples Organisation (CIPO), shared that although more attention are being given to the minority groups, they still face many challenges demanding more support.

Representing the National Assembly, Dr. Pen Panha, Chairman of Commission on Legislation and Justice, heard the remaining issues raised and reiterated the commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia to continue promoting the rights, education and living condition of indigenous minorities in the country as enshrined in the National Policy on Development of Indigenous Minorities.
