DPM H.E. Bin Chhin Designated Acting Minister in charge of Office of Council of Ministers
AKP Phnom Penh, March 16, 2017 –
H.E. Bin Chhin has been assigned to be the Acting Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, in replacement of Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An who passed away yesterday, in addition to his current post as Permanent Deputy Prime Minister.
The designation was made in a royal government’s decision signed on Mar. 16 by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An, also a Lawmaker for Takeo constituency, passed away on Mar. 15 in Beijing, China at around 18:32, at the age of 66 years old after a long battle with illness.
Cambodian leaders, including Acting Head of State Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting President of the Senate H.E. Nai Pena, Deputy Prime Minister Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Minister of Interior, etc. have sent separate condolence messages to late H.E. Sok An’s family, saying that it is a great loss for the nation and wishing his soul to rest in peace.
Born on April 16, 1950 in Kirivong district, Takeo province, Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An has played a key role in the peace seeking process in Cambodia and in establishing the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) or the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. He was also recognised for the listing of the 11th-century Preah Vihear Temple as a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and for the leadership of APSARA National Authority which is tasked to be responsible for research, protection, and conservation as well as the urban and tourist development of the Angkor Archeological Park.
