2011 Disabled Volleyball World Cup Competition Held in Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, July 25, 2011 –
The 2011 Disabled Volleyball World Cup competition was held at Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh in an opening ceremony presided over by Cambodia’s First Lady Lok Chumteav Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, president of Cambodia Red Cross.
Speaking at the event, Lok Chumteav Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen said, “Promoting sports among people with disabilities means giving them a new opportunity and enabling them to contribute to the social development.
“Sports will not only make the disabled healthy, but also show the solidarity with each other, she said, that’s why the Royal Government of Cambodia is trying to promote such a competition.”
Cambodian athletes with disabilities participated in 21 international sports tournaments, earning gold, silvers and blondes, according to a report delivered by H.E. Ith Sam Heng, minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation.
The 2011 Disabled Volleyball World Cup competition, the third of its kind, is co-organized by the World Organization Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD) and the Cambodia Nation Volleyball League for Disabled (CNVLD). The countries participating in the event includes Cambodia, Germany, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Laos and Sri Lanka. The competition runs through July 29.
