Lives and Crop Prevention against Possible Emergency
AKP Phnom Penh, August 20, 2012 –
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, H.E Chan Sarun last week gave recommendations to his officials to prevent crops and lives as flash flood is being expected this year.
Based on national assessment of rice crops as of mid August and on-going low rainfall, H.E. Chan Sarun is concerned about 2012 low crop production, especially if the flash flood really exists.
The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister encouraged his officials at all levels to help farmers select appropriate rice species, vaccinate cattle and get ready with necessary materials and labor force for possible emergency.
The assessment shows that within the reporting period only 80 percent of crops have been produced compared to planned amount of crops due to drought.
Despite lower crop production in overall, three provinces collected more than 100 percent of the planned amount. They are Banteay Meanchey, Mondulkiri and Pailin.
Cambodia-wide, 14 provinces and municipality are undergoing drought.
