Cambodia, 2nd Winner of the 5th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition

Cambodia won the 2nd prize of the Individual Category at the 5th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition opened here this morning at Chaktomuk Conference Hall under the presidency of H.E. Khieu Kanharith, Cambodian Minister of Information.

The 1st prize went to the Philippines, while the 3rd to Thailand.

Altogether 30 high school students – all winners of national level competitions – from the ten ASEAN member countries have been joining the biennial contest. They are challenged on their knowledge of the ASEAN region.

According to the schedule, the 30 contestants will compete against each other in Group Category tomorrow. They will be divided into six teams with members of each team being made up of different nationalities.

The ASEAN Quiz is very important and an effective way to raise ASEAN awareness among the ASEAN youths, said H.E. Him Suong, Cambodian Undersecretary of State for Information and Chairman of Cambodia-ASEAN Committee for Information and Culture.

The ASEAN Quiz first began in Thailand in 2002, then in Brunei Darussalam in 2004, Malaysia in 2006, and the Philippines in 2009.

The ASEAN members are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
