Cambodian, Lao Health Ministers Hold Talks

AKP Phnom Penh, August 03, 2012 –

Cambodian Health Minister H.E. Dr. Mam Bun Heng received here on Wednesday a visiting delegation of the Lao Ministry of Health led by its Minister H.E. Dr. Eksavang Vongvichit.

In the meeting, H.E. Dr. Eksavang Vongvichit said that the purpose of his visit in Cambodia is to take lesson learnt and experience from the Cambodian Ministry of Health on health sector’s reform, especially on the reduction of child and maternal mortality rate.

The Lao delegation also would like to learn about human resource training system in the field of health in Cambodia, said H.E. Dr. Eksavang Vongvichit, adding that the child and maternal mortality rate in Laos is higher than that in Cambodia and other ASEAN countries.

For his part, H.E. Dr. Mam Bun Heng said the Cambodia’s success derived from the clear-sighted and wise leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in providing equity funds to Cambodian poor people to gain equitable and free-of-charge health services, so that they can go to hospitals fast and timely.

Road infrastructure has been built in the rural areas so that people can have an easy access to health services, he underlined.

The ministry has also followed up the progress of hospitals regularly and precisely in order to give people high quality and effectiveness in the services. Training and encouragement are also offered to nurses with incentive money when they take care of pregnant women, he added.
