Cambodia’s Bank Deposits, Loans Increase in First Semester of 2012

Cambodia’s banking industry continues to grow in both deposits and loans in the first six months of this year, H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of National Bank of Cambodia, said in a meeting held here yesterday.

The number of depositors reached more than 1.3 million, an increase by 22 percent if compared to the same period of 2011, while that of loan users increased to 443,000, up 33 percent, he pointed out.

This year, the country’s economic growth would be at least 7 percent, while last year it was at 7.1 percent, he added.

As of April 2012, Cambodia has 32 commercial banks, 7 specialized banks, 4 foreign banks’ representative offices, and 32 microfinance institutions. By the end of 2011, the country’s banking deposits and credits increased 20.41 percent and 33.49 percent respectively compared to 2010.
