Phnom Penh Authority Distributes 20 Tons of Abate

AKP Phnom Penh, July 20, 2012 —

Phnom Penh authority yesterday distributed 20 tons of Abate, a chemical substance used to kill larvae in water pots to five of the capital’s nine Khan to prevent dengue fever and Chikungunya; the two insect-borne viruses that are transmitted to humans by virus-carrying by Aedes mosquitoes.

H.E. Ms. Touch Sarom, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh, said these 20 tons of Abate will be distributed to 38 districts in the five Khan to prevent the deadly diseases.

According to the figure from the National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control, in the first half of the year there were some 15,600 cases of dengue fever and 60 of them have died.
