APT Foreign Ministers Approve the Selection of Siem Reap as East Asia’s Cultural City
AKP Phnom Penh, July 10, 2012 –
ASEAN Plus Three (APT) foreign ministers this afternoon approved the selection of Siem Reap as the Cultural City of East Asia, H.E. Kao Kim Huorn, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said at a press briefing after the APT Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
In the one-and-a-half hour meeting, the APT foreign ministers also agreed to hold a joint cultural event and an APT youth program to commemorate the 15th anniversary of APT cooperation, he said.
The APT foreign ministers will push the APT member countries to approve the food reserves for APT, said H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, pointed out that six countries including Cambodia have so far approved the agreement.
Regarding the Korean Peninsula issue, the APT foreign ministers urged for a restraint so as to avoid escalation of tension by complying with the resolution of the United Nations Security Council, he said.
The meeting was chaired by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Hor Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the participation of other ASEAN foreign ministers, Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Yang Jiechi, Japanese Senior Vice Foreign Minister H.E. Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi and representative of South Korean foreign minister.
