Cambodian PM Requests Two Bilingual Newspapers for Rectification

AKP Phnom Penh, June 27, 2012 —

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has requested The Phnom Penh Post and The Cambodia Daily, two English- and Khmer-language newspapers, to make corrections over their news reports about economic land concessions (ELCs).

Speaking at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday, Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked the two newspapers to fully publish his four-point order on ELCs issued publicly on May 7, 2012.

The two newspapers have recently reported that Samdech Techo Hun Sen had signed to grant more ELCs after the announcement of the May 7 order.

“I have never signed to grant more ELCs. [...] Please read through the order,” he said.

The first point of the order stresses on the temporary suspension of ELCs granting, while the last point stipulates that any ELCs that have got principle agreement from the government before the issuance of the order must continue to be implemented according to the existing guidelines of law and procedures, pointed out the Cambodian premier.
