Ministry of Commerce Establishes Rice Exporters Federation of Cambodia

AKP Phnom Penh, June 22, 2012 –

Sixty-two (62) Cambodian rice exporters and rice millers under the coordination of the Ministry of Commerce yesterday afternoon elected a president for the upcoming establishment of the Rice Exporters Federation of Cambodia (REFC) in an attempt to achieve the royal government’s target of exporting 1 million tons of milled rice by 2015.

H.E. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Commerce said the REFC will be a key player of the paddy and milled rice sector in Cambodia. It will represent the Cambodian rice exporters for all negotiations at regional and international markets.

“Up to now, our milled rice export reached the amount of some 200,000 tons. It is far from the target, but the REFC will boost the export to meet the goal,” he said.

The elected president of the REFC is Mr. Kim Savuth, President of Khmer Food Company who got 53 votes.
