Cambodia’s Exports to U.S. Reach US$653 Million in First Four Months of 2012
AKP Phnom Penh, June 17, 2012 –
From January to April this year, the total exports from Cambodia to the U.S. were worth US$652.96 million, H.E. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Commerce said during a meeting here on Friday with newly-appointed U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. William E. Todd.
The export figure is similar to that of the same period in the previous year, he added.
The main exported product was garment in equivalent to US$639.50 million, a 0.43 percent or US$2.7 million rise, said the senior minister.
On the bilateral ties, Cambodia and the U.S. will work together to expand their cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment, said H.E. Cham Prasidh, stressing that in the ASEAN framework, the U.S. and ASEAN are on a better cooperation track.
As the 2012 ASEAN Chair, Cambodia has been boosting more ASEAN-U.S. relations so that the U.S. becomes an ASEAN’s comprehensive trade and dialogue partner, he said.
For his part, H.E. William E. Todd expressed his support to Cambodia as the ASEAN Chair in 2012 and affirmed that U.S. Secretary of State H.E. Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit Cambodia soon to participate in the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held in July.
