CRC President Meets ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Spouses
AKP Phnom Penh, May 30, 2012 –
Lok Chumteav Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) received here on May 29 a courtesy meeting with defence ministers’ spouses from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
They accompanied their husbands to attend the 6th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (6th ADMM) held in Cambodia.
In the meeting, Lok Chumteav Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen expressed warm welcome to the visiting delegation and had a pride as Cambodia was hosting the 2012 ASEAN Summit under the theme “One Community, One Destiny” as the mutual help in one community to solve the challenges faced in the region.
She elaborated on the CRC’s organizational structure from national to local levels and humanitarian activities such as disaster relief and people’s health enhancement.
She ascribed the success of CRC’s work to the solidarity among the people in the country and the world as well as in the region including Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
In addition, she said, Cambodia has to solve some issues such as HIV/AIDS infection and discrimination, child and maternal health and road traffic safety.
She also said she set up vocational training centers in some provinces and cities such as mat weaving, cloth weaving, stone carving, sewing, and other practical skills, with the aim of raising the living standards of the Cambodian people.
In reply, in the name of the delegation, the spouse of Malaysia’s defence minister expressed thanks to Lok Chumteav Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen for the presentation of CRC’s activities and also appreciated the national development in Cambodia led by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
The delegation was led by Mme. Tao Toeun, wife of Cambodia’s National Defence Minister H.E. Tea Banh.
