Cambodia Has 505,134 Enterprises

AKP Phnom Penh, March 13, 2012 –

Cambodia has in total 505,134 enterprises employing over 1.6 million workers, according to the final results of the 2011 Economic Census of Cambodia released this morning under the presidency of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister H.E. Keat Chhon, high representative of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Of the total enterprises, 222,000 or 44 percent employ only one worker; 176,000 or 34.9 percent two workers; 40,000 or 7.8 percent more than 5 workers; 13,000 or 2.6 percent more than 10 workers; 787 or 0.2 percent more than 100 workers ; and 119 more than 1,000 workers, indicated the results.

The number of the newly-established enterprises is around 180,000, show the final results, adding that 1,676,263 workers have been working in the sector, of them 1,026,084 or 61.2 percent are women.

If compared to the last census in 2009, the number of the workers in this sector saw an increase of 9.5 percent with the annual growth rate of around 4.47 percent, while the annual population growth rate is 1.54 percent.
