DMP Sok An Meets JOGMEC’s Delegation

AKP Phnom Penh, January 30, 2012 –

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers H.E. Sok An received here this morning visiting Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC)’s Executive Director Mr. Akira Suzuki.

JOGMEC is a company that has gained license to explore mines in Preah Vihear northern province.

In the meeting, H.E. Sok An asked the company to be very careful in the exploration process because Preah Vihear is home to more than 200 temples, particularly the Preah Vihear Temple, a world heritage site, and the habitat for many endangered animals, Mr. Ek Tha, spokesperson for the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Council of Ministers told reporters.

In reply, Mr. Akira Suzuki pledged to respect Cambodia’s cultural heritage. JOGMEC will try to harmonize the exploration of mineral resource and the protection of cultural heritage and eco-tourism in the area, he affirmed.

JOGMEC is one of the 128 companies that have got mine exploration licenses in 18 provinces in Cambodia.
