Over 5,000 To Join Angkor Wat International Haft Marathon 2011

AKP Phnom Penh, December 1, 2011 –

Over 5,000 athletes will participate in the 16th Angkor Wat International Haft Marathon to be held on Dec. 4 at Angkor Wat Temple, Siem Reap province.

A total of 5,129 runners from 58 different countries will join the marathon, of them 3,302 are foreigners and 1,827 are Cambodians, said recently H.E. Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.

The majority of the foreign runners are from the United Kingdom, the U.S., Australia and Singapore, he added.

The event, organized by the Hearts of Gold Organization of Japan, is aimed at raising fund for helping landmine/UXO victims, and people living with HIV/AIDS and combating the anti-personnel landmines.
