PM Hun Sen Calls for Continued Support from All Philanthropists

AKP Phnom Penh, April 11, 2018 –

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has appealed for continued support from both local and international philanthropists to Kantha Bopha Hospital in the interest of the future of the children who are Cambodia’s next generation.

At the official launch of Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation here at the Peace Palace this morning, the Premier said all philanthropists can become honorary or supporting members of the Foundation in compliance with the extent and conditions of donation as stated under the sub-decree on the creation of Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, members of the newly launched foundation are divided into three categories: Founding, Honorary and Supporting Members.

Those who contribute as minimum as 80 million Riel (about US$20,000), 20 million Riel (US$5,000), and 5,000 Riel (US$1.25) per month, will become founding, honorary and supporting members, respectively, he pointed out.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), donate their own budget of US$50,000 annually for five years and CRC will continue its annual contribution of US$1 million to support the operation of the five branches of Kantha Bopha Hospital.

The contribution in the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation is on a voluntary basis and not only the rich, but also people from all walks of life can take part in the humanitarian activities of saving Cambodian children’s lives, underlined Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

According to the Prime Minister’s Facebook page, up to now (April 11), a total amount of US$1.29 million and 680 million Riel (about US$170,000) has been raised from 52 founding members.

Senior Minister H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation, said that in 2018, in addition to continued budget support of approximately US$10 million to the Kantha Bopha Hospital, the Royal Government of Cambodia decided to give the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation a seed funding for initial subsidy of 40.250 billion Riel or approximately US$10 million for supporting the Kantha Bopha Hospital’s sustainability.
