Temporary Route to Replace Chroy Changvar Bridge Ready before Khmer New Year

AKP Phnom Penh, January 12, 2018 –

Phnom Penh’s steel bridge on Tonle Sap River to temporarily replace the traffic via the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge being under rehabilitation will be ready before the coming Khmer New Year in early April.

The update was shared to the local media recently by Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) – the construction company in charge of the project.

Construction team, Mr. Touch Samnang – OCIC’s deputy director general was quoted in the source, is speeding up the temporary steel bridge of about 500 metres.

He added that, the bridge stretching across Tonle Sap River from Phnom Penh’s new Freedom Park in Khan Russey Keo of Phnom Penh to the other side, costs roughly US$9 million.

The existence of the temporary steel bridge while the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, (known as Chroy Changvar Bridge) is under rehabilitation will address emerging traffic congestion issue, particularly during national celebrations with heavy traffic.
