115kV Transmission Line Phnom Penh-Bavet Inaugurated
AKP Phnom Penh, April 21, 2017 –
The 115 kilovolt transmission line from Phnom Penh to Bavet, built under a concessional loan project from China, was put into official use on April 19.
The inauguration ceremony took place at a station in Preah Sdech district, Prey Veng province, under the presidency of Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy H.E. Suy Sem and Ambassador of China to Cambodia H.E. Xiong Bo.
H.E. Xiong Bo congratulated Cambodia on the inauguration of the above-said power transmission lines, stressing that starting from zero, Cambodia is now capable of supplying over 80 percent of electricity.
China has provided support to develop seven main power projects and rural power transmission lines, which will contribute to the development of Cambodia’s economy, he added.
H.E. Suy Sem said enough electricity infrastructure development with reasonable price is a key to boost the economic growth and improve the people’s living standard.
The Royal Government of Cambodia was committed to extend the electricity supply coverage to all villages across the country by 2020 (74.7 percent in 2016) and to increase the household access rate to electricity to at least 70 percent by 2030 (58.2 percent in 2016).
