Some 140 New Factories Established in 2016
AKP Phnom Penh, April 20, 2017 –
Last year, a total of 141 new factories have been created, generating 62,312 jobs, said a report of the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft released at the ministry’s recent annual work review.
According to the record, with the newly established ones, the total number of factories registered at the ministry reached now 1,591, employing 921,858 workers. Besides, 89,073 SMEs have been established, creating nearly 610,000 jobs.
Those factories produced US$9,568 million and exported US$7,389 million worth of products, it added.
H.E. Chan Prasidh, Senior Minister and Minister of Industry and Handicraft, said the industrial sector saw an increase by 11.4 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year, and contributed some 29.5 percent to the country’s GDP.
Under the right vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia and based on the Cambodia Industrial Development Policy 2015-2025, the industrial sector is expected to play more important role in the country’s progress.
